Introduction

SMART Scaffolder draw IT makes it easy to draw professional scaffold engineering drawings using AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT. With draw IT you can simply drag and drop scaffold components onto your AutoCAD drawing, with draw IT helping you to produce drawings that conform to industry standard practices.

Start a drawing from scratch or import exisitng building plans and elevations to create your drawings from. A selection of sample drawings is supplied free with the software and you can quickly build up your own library of drawings to adapt and reuse for future projects. Customise your drawings with your company logo and job details and output to a wide range of file formats and printed outputs.

Take full advantage of the powerful tools in Autodesk's world leading CAD software. If you already have AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT or are just thinking about purchasing it, SMART Scaffolder draw IT will be your essential drawing partner.

Full AutoCAD Integration

AutoCAD 2010AutoCAD LT 2010

SMART Scaffolder draw IT creates a custom environment within AutoCAD for the easy creation of scaffolding drawings.

The exact layout of AutoCAD will depend on the version that you are using, but all versions of AutoCAD have the same tools. AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT 2009 appear as shown in the screenshot below.

The marked areas of the screen are:

  1. The main AutoCAD drawing area
  2. The AutoCAD ribbon bar (tool bar), which provides the AutoCAD drawing tools
  3. The SMART Scaffolder tool palette, which provides the scaffolding drawing tools
  4. The Quick View Layouts button, which allows you to choose a different paper size

Selecting objects, zooming and panning are all easily achieved with the simple click of a mouse.

Share and update drawings using draw IT link

the draw IT link works in conjunction with estimate IT, enabling the automatic creation and export to your desktop or folders of a dxf file. This file contains an AutoCAD readable drawing for each scaffold item in the estimate.

You can supply this drawing file to an Engineer, potentially reducing the design time required and need for a site visit. This in turn will reduce fees and turnaround times for your clients. Now, that is a real business advantage!

When draw IT link is also used in conjunction with draw it, you can perform any required amendments on any imported drawing, including adding a title block, notes, dimensions, symbols, etc.

Automatic Drawing Sheet Sizes

AutoCAD uses the term layout to describe a drawing sheet. SMART Scaffolder draw IT automatically sets up five layouts in A0 to A4 paper sizes, helping you to get started quickly.

Versatile Drawings and Annotations

SMART Scaffolder draw IT takes full advantage of the AutoCAD concept of 'Model space' and 'Paper space'.

  • Model space: is used to draw 'real world' objects, such as scaffolding
  • Paper space: is used to add annotation, for example a title area for your logo and job details

AutoCAD uses this concept to allow drawings at different scales to be placed on a single sheet of paper (layout). This is achieved with AutoCAD viewports, where each viewport displays a section of model space within a layout. The layouts that are supplied with draw IT all have a single viewport set up that fills the page.

Drag and Drop Scaffolding Components

The AutoCAD tool palette allows you to drag and drop scaffolding components onto the drawing. The palette contains a number of tabbed pages, which can be clicked to display different types of scaffolding components and manufacturer products, (Base Plates, Ladders, Brick Guards, Sleeve Couplers, Hop Up Brackets, Castors etc).

Draw Using AutoCAD Layers

AutoCAD uses layers to make the drawing easier to view on screen. Each layer can be assigned a colour, a line style and given a name. SMART Scaffolder draw IT provides a default set of layers (e.g. Base Plate, Beams, Boards, Brackets, Brick Guards). Most of the scaffold components are automatically set to the correct layer, whilst tubes are able to be used for standards, ledgers, guard rails, or bracing etc.

Print and Share Your Drawings

SMART Scaffolder draw IT will print using black ink by default but can also print in colour. You can also output to DWF, DWG, DXF and PDF file formats to send electronically to customers with your quotations etc.

Get Working Your Way

SMART Scaffolder draw IT is set up to get you working with AutoCAD without the need for further configuration. However, if you wish you can configure draw IT to only display the tube, board, beam, and ladder sizes you need. SMART Scaffolder draw IT is supplied with tubes, boards, and ladders at 1' intervals, plus a selection of beams from several manufacturers. You can remove the components that you do not need from the tool palettes, simplifying the selection.

SMART Scaffolder draw IT is automatically set up to produce drawings at a scale of 1:50. This means that you can get started straight away producing elevation drawings on common paper sizes, usually A2 - A4. You can also easily use a different scale (e.g. to draw a plan view on a larger paper size).

Help and Advice

SMART Scaffolder draw IT comes with a comprehensive User Manual and Tutorial document introducing you to AutoCAD basics then helping you draw a scaffold from scratch. This covers the following stages:

  1. AutoCAD basics and draw IT functionality
  2. Draw the standards
  3. Draw the ledgers and guard rails
  4. Draw the bracing
  5. Draw the boards and transoms
  6. Annotate the drawing

SMART Scaffolder draw IT is supplied with a number of sample drawings for different types of scaffolding - including independent scaffolds, towers, and loading bays - to get you started. To use the sample drawings, click on the Samples tabbed page of the tool palette. You can then drop them onto the drawing in the same way as the scaffold components.
Once you have placed the sample drawing you can edit it, helping you to re-use existing drawings rather than starting from scratch.

Import Building Plans and Elevations

If you have existing plan or elevations drawings of the building you can draw directly over them using draw IT. AutoCAD DWG or DXF file formats can be opened then copied and pasted into a drawing layout. It is then a simple matter to draw over the building using the draw IT scaffold components, helping you to position your standards around obstructions and to place your lifts where required.
