IStructE President Visits CADS India

January saw the visit of The President of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Mr Michael Dickson to the India office of CADS, Computer and Design Services Limited.  The objectives of the visit were to promote the routes to membership of the IStructE.  The office based in Chennai (formerly Madras) is approaching its 10th anniversary, and since opening has successfully expanded to nearly 300 staff.

It was a special honour for the India office to receive the IStructE President, who was accompanied by Darren Byrne, IStructE Membership and Qualifications Manager.  A traditional Indian greeting of garlands was followed by a presentation by CADS India Managing Director Mr K K Jagadish.  This covered the varied activities of the CADS India office, from developing analysis, modelling, design and detailing solutions for the construction industry, through to reinforced concrete detailing services for critical projects around the globe. Mr Dickson and Mr Byrne were first introduced to the team, before making their own presentation to CADS India engineers.  Advice was provided on the various grades of membership that engineers may aspire to.  Mr Byrne discussed the different routes to IStructE membership including academic requirements, Initial Professional Development regulations and new Professional Review procedures. There was also plenty of opportunity for the CADS team of engineers to ask questions. CADS India Managing Director Mr Jagadish commented: 'This visit has been a welcome opportunity for us to inform the IStructE and its' members of CADS wider activities.  We hope that this visit has helped further the work of the institution in developing the profession of structural engineering in India.'
