Scia Engineer - CADS RC Designers Link Guide (472 Kb)
This document describes the procedure to export and design reinforced concrete elements like beams, columns, padbases and pilecaps in batches from SCIA Engineer to CADS RC Design Modules.

SCIA Engineer and CADS RC Designers

Following the release of SCIA Engineer 2008.1, the following RC Designers are required in order to maintain compatibility with the SCIA Engineer product:-

  • CADS RC Beam Designer, V3.34 (Build 515)
  • CADS RC Column Designer, V1.71 (Build 230)
  • CADS RC Base Designer, V2.07 (Build 274)
  • CADS RC Pile Cap Designer, V1.69 (Build 121)

The following support installation is also required:-

Application Support,  V1.58 (Build 221)

Additional features:-

A new feature is introduced by which it is now possible to export all or selected multiple RC design objects in a structural model from SCIA Engineer (formerly ESA PT) to the RC Designers, in a single export. The selected objects will be designed one by one transparently and saved along with a design summary report in (.rtf), format, in the selected folder. The design summary report can be viewed in Microsoft Word. The saved individual jobs can then be opened in the RC Designer or imported into CADSRC through Beam Link.

This new feature should provide a major efficiency improvement (as previously each design object in a structural model needed to be exported individually).

Prerequisites:-

1. SCIA Engineer should already have been installed.
2. Ensure that neither SCIA Engineer nor any RC Designers are running when installing the updated applications.
3. In order that all supporting files and components are included, the RC Designers must initially have been installed from the latest CADS CD (2008-1).

Download instructions:-

Please follow the following steps in order to download the RC Designers and install them.

1. Select the download icon of each RC Designer in order to download the compressed (.zip) file.
2. Save each RC Designer in a suitable download folder (the desktop or a folder on the desktop) is a convenient location.
3. Extract the installation file (.exe) from the compressed (.zip) file by double-clicking the (.zip) file - place the installation file (.exe) in the same folder as the (.zip) file.
4. Start the installation by double-clicking the installation (.exe) file, and follow the installation instructions.

Note: the update to the RC Designers is only required if you are using SCIA Engineer and CADS RC Designers - the updates are not required if you are using ESA PT (or EPW).

Version 2.07 (Build 274)

Enhancements:
1)      A new feature is introduced by which it is now possible to export all or selected multiple bases in a structural model from SCIA Engineer (formerly ESA PT) to RC PadBase Designer, in a single export. The selected bases will be designed one by one silently and saved along with a design summary report in .rtf format, in selected folder. The design summary report can be viewed in Microsoft Word by click of a button. The saved individual jobs can then be opened in RC PadBase Designer.

This new feature would save a lot of time as earlier each base in a structural model needed to be exported individually.

Corrections Made:
1)      An error in considering the user input eccentric position of wall load from column centre in base load calculations has been corrected.

2)      The following changes are made in the 'Loads and Combinations' page for better clarity.

The column heading 'Wind load' is changed to 'Load combination type'.

Load types are changed from 'Normal' to 'Non-wind', 'Up' to 'Wind uplift' and 'Down' to 'Wind down'.

3)      In 'Auto design controls' dialog if length or width dimension is fixed the input fields for the other dimension, base shape and length/width ratio will now be grayed out since both the dimensions cannot be fixed at a time and the other values will be calculated automatically.

4)      File->Configuration->Controls did not retain fixed dimension settings unless saved with a job. This has been corrected.

5)      An error in refreshing the PSF values for secondary loads based on load combination type while generating the load combinations through 'Auto Load Combinations' has been fixed.
