Advanced Analysis Features
Sophisticated modelling tools for all civil and structural engineering structures. Scia Engineer provides a comprehensive library of nonstandard cross sections including user input of custom/arbitrary shapes including DXF import of cross-section sketches. Frame structures
can be quickly analysed in different stages of construction.

Non-linear Analysis
Physical non-linear analysis of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete for estimation of long term deflections, including creep effects and crack section analysis.  Local physical non-linearities, members with limited compression/tension, elimination of tension springs, gap elements, non linear supports. Plastic analysis of Steel structures.

Dynamic & Seismic Analysis
This covers:

  • Natural frequency analysis
  • Harmonics and seismic loads
  • Fast train dynamics - Generation of dynamic load cases for fast trains for given range of
    train speeds
  • Non uniform damping - Input of the damping properties for structures with sub-structures of different damping characteristics

Pre-stressed & Post-tensioned Concrete

Creating Structural Models
Scia Engineer has acquired a reputation for being the best design solution for buildings of mixed construction.  Loads are quickly applied to the structure graphically including, floor, point, line, patch, wind, trapezoidal, dynamic and seismic loads.  It also supports fixed, free, spring and non-linear load types.

Structural models can be quickly generated and edited using the kind of powerful modelling tools usually associated with CAD drafting software. Scia Engineer's exceptional graphics make using it both pleasant and productive with the software intelligently creating the load, slab, beam, column, wall and foundation design objects.

Import AutoCAD DXF files and automatically generate or copy similar floors before refining and editing them with user friendly tools, such as cut, copy-n-paste and mirroring functions.  3D views help users to check input geometry and can also assist with presentations to clients. Output to screen, CAD or printed format.  Easily display the properties of elements for editing and select multiple objects simultaneously.  Automatic meshing can be enhanced with tools to refine at nodes or structural edges.

SMART Modeller (Scia Engineer) Bi-directional Link

The bi-directional links to Revit® Structure within Scia Engineer have been designed to create seamless analysis, design and detailing environments. Scia Engineer software will directly analyse Autodesk Revit Structure information, without the need to manually manipulate the data. This helps maintain the integrity of the BIM.
