Design Essentials for the Modern Era
The W.10 upgrade for WinDes introduced more than 50 new features. All have been developed in response to rapidly changing patterns of need in the industry and, in particular, to specific suggestions and feedback from WinDes users.
Recent technical guidance includes CIRIA C609 and the Interim Code of Practice (ICP), both on SUDS.
The trend towards more emphasis on risk assessments and CIRIA C635 is a good practice guide on 'Designing for exceedance in urban drainage'.
Micro Drainage has been actively involved with these projects and WinDes W.10 has been engineered to extend the power of the suite in these areas, without compromising productivity.
Design Essentials
They have improved the suite from the very core, beginning with the fundamentals:
- Storm, Foul, Schedules and Longsection have been integrated into a single module: System 1
- An even wider range of sections can now be optimised, including swales, ditches, culverts and more.
Foul network design has been re-engineered to address the challenges of today's design environment, with small, high density developments:
- Simultaneously view velocities at full bore, proportional depth and 1/3 flow.
- Specify multiple frequency factors and fractional units throughout the network in accordance with EN 752.
- Optimise the network to achieve self-cleansing velocities at 1/3 flow.
You can comply with all relevant design guidelines and achieve optimum cover depths at the click of a button, including optimisation with throttled flows, audits for pipe clashing and manhole headlosses.
Confronting Exceedance and pollution
A SUDS Planner and Comparative Pollution Analysis have been included in the Source Control module to help you decide on the most appropriate SUDS structures for your specific site circumstances.
Offsite discharges must now be controlled for different return periods, so we have incorporated a Complex Control facility into the Source Control, Simulation and Storage Design modules.
They have also extended the range of SUDS structures and controls supported, and the APT Auditor has been extended to cater for new requirements in the ICP.
In anticipation of more flood/exceedance assessment work, they have included a continuous analysis facility within Source Control, which will enable you to run decades of actual rainfall through your drainage system quickly.
