A number of customers have requested the ability to apply a particular single span analysis to more than one template so alternative designs or member types may be tried. A method of doing this has been added to this version although we are looking at further improvements to this facility.
The method requires the following procedure:
- The templates used for the designs must all use the single span analysis
- An analysis and design should be carried out as usual for the first component, e.g. a timber trimmer joist/lintel, and saved with a suitable file name
- Open the template for the design of the next component, (e.g. steel UB subject to bending)
- When the single span analysis opens instead of entering loads pick 'Open existing...'. Don't bother to save the blank analysis when asked, but pick the component saved above
- You are warned that the "component contains data for a different template" and pick 'Yes' to continue
- The single span analysis opens with the previous data and you can pick Design for the new component
- When you save the data the file browser will be opened for a new file so the data can be saved separately. However if you wish to save it with the previous data you can
- Pick the existing file. You will be warned that the data will be overwritten but can continue
- When you come to re-open the file both the design components will be shown and you may choose either
- Further designs may be tried as required
